We visited the Duke University Hospital of Durham by chartered bus from a hotel of state capital Raleigh of North Carolina (September 28, 1989), The North Division of Duke University Hospital is one of the medical facilities which are the most modern in the world. We observed the North Divition (Ancillary Section, Central Core and Patient Bed Towers) of Duke University Hostital.
We entered at the Main Entrance, and we watched the waiting room and a consulting room in the building including the Ancillary Section (radiology, laboratories, pharmacy , emergency trauma etc.), and went to the Patient Bed Towers (734 beds) via Central Core (including elevator, stairs, restroom, public telephone etc.). In the patient room, a private room is basic. It is unknown whether the patient room which we visited is the room of the normal level. I felt it to be considerably higher-quality than a Japanese general patient room.
We observed a nurse station, a monitoring room, a machine room, a cafeteria, the gift shop other than the above. Time is limited and it was simple explanation, but thanks for having had you show many places.
The medical records perform a central dispatching and are sent to consultation department by self-run carrier like the attache case. In addition, the visitor can go to South Division using new transportation system called the PRT.
