The Iwami-Adachi Museum
The museum was established in 1977 as a foundation
to exhibit some 950
local art goods then possessed by Keizo Adachi
as his personal collection.
It now displays a total of 2,500 items of
art products, mostly made by
local artists in Iwami region, the western
part of Shimane Prefecture. The
art goods currently being displayed include
Iwami swords, sword guards,
paintings, calligraphic works, ceramic wares,
dyed cloths and Nagahama
dolls.
The museum lies halfway between Hamada city
and Kotsu city along
National Route 9. Located near the one-story
white-colored building are
Iwami Seaside Park and maritime museum Aquas.
In 1979, it was registered
as the third museum in Shimane Prefecture
by Japanese museum law.
Visitors can have the best access to the
cultural history of art
products and folk handicrafts in Iwami region
whenever they visit the
museum which regards providing them with
such opportunities as its calling.
The displayed items are replaced regularly
every three months for each
season. Special exhibitions focusing on a
certain theme will be also held
once or twice a year.
The museum opens from 10:00 a.m. to 15:30
It closes everyTuesday.
The admission fee for adults is 500 yen,

Students can enter the museum free of charge
on Saturday.
