概説

涅槃は、「さとり」〔証、悟、覚〕と同じ意味であるとされる。しかし、ニルウ゛ァーナの字義は「吹き消すこと」「吹き消した状態」であり、

すなわち煩悩（ぼんのう）の火を吹き消した状態を指すのが本義である。その意味で、滅とか寂滅とか寂静と訳された。また、涅槃は如来の死そのものを指す。以下省略
