しかし、事務方から、高齢の為と、断りの手紙が送られて来た、私は、この手紙を信じて、梅原猛氏との、対談をあきらめていました。

梅原猛は、親鸞の弟子、唯円が、書き残した「歎異抄」を翻訳することで 、親鸞を、分析・解明しようとしているが、「歎異抄」で、親鸞の経験を、知ることは、絶対にできない。

唯円の「歎異抄」では、仏教を信仰させるための、念仏に執着していることと、親鸞の息子、善鸞が起こした、仏教・宗教によく起こる、信者の派閥事件（異歎事件）の記録である。

These days, at the Nichiren sect which Nichiren started, although argument of Fuji Taiseki-ji and Soka Gakkai is famous, factional strife attains to even Buddhism and religion by a foolish human being.

仏の教えを説くべき、仏教が、権力闘争、既得権争いをしていては、この世も終わりです、イスラム教では、宗派の違いで、戦争まで起きている。

パワースポット、仏像ガール・・・・・・ブームの背景はどこに　　２１

五木　ここ数年来のベストセラーを見ると、『蟹工船』のブームがあって、そ

のあとにドストエフスキイのブームがあって、若い人たちが『カラマーゾフの

兄弟』なんかをスターバックスで読んだりするという、風俗的な流行がありま

した。そして最近は、いろいろな雑誌で仏教入門や、神道とは何かについての特

集があったり、また全国各地の神社仏閣のある特別な霊的力を生じる土地をパ

ワースポットと呼んで、その特集が組まれて、神や仏が風俗的な形で大流行し

ているようにも感じるんですね。

たとえば、「仏像ガール」などという言葉ができているように、若い女性の

間で仏教に対する関心が急速に高まっているという。奈良・興福寺の国宝「阿

修羅展」に代表されるように、昨今の仏教関係の展覧会は大混雑で、入場する

のに何時間も待つのだとか。

梅原　ああ、そうらしいですね。

五木　親鸞関係の本も続々と、筑摩書房などから十巻のシリーズなども出てい

ますし、または山折哲雄さんの『「教行信証」を読むーーー親鸞の世界へ』（岩

波親書）という本も出て、読書界の話題になりました。なんで、いまのような

コンピュータのデジタル化された時代に、仏の世界が、世間に関心を呼ぶのだ

ろうと思うのです。

いわゆる、日本人の深層にある宗教観などから、人生の真理を解いていくと

いうよりは、オウム真理教の事件があって、あのときの後遺症が、いまも解決

されないままに残っていますでしょう。「なぜ人を殺してはいけないか」とい

う問いなどが、そのまま存在していて、それは人間の根源的な悪の問題と重な

り合っている。その中で人間の本性っていったい何だろうということを、ご

く一般の人が感じるようになってきたのではないでしょうか。

梅原　悪の問題というのは、本当に避けて通れないもんですわ。

ヒューマニズムの限界が見えはじめてきていることが、大きな問題ではないで

しょうか、人間中心主義の、善なるものえの関心から、たとえば『蟹工船』で

は、資本主義という社会の人間疎外の悪が表面化してくる。ドストエフスキイ

は、十九世紀の時代に「神なき世界の罪と罰とは何か」ということで、悪を凝

視する。

梅原　そうですな。

五木　その中で、いろんな宗教家たちが、人間の悪というものとかヒューマ

ニズムの限界とかを口にするようになってきた。科学がここまで進歩して、医

療技術が日進月歩の、ものすごい勢いで進んでいるにもかかわらず、ガンの探

知犬が話題になったり、これだというガンの治療法の決め手がわからずに、国

民の二人に一人がガンで亡くなるという状況になってきている。あるいは、う

つ病患者が潜在的な人を含めると一千万人ちかい、というような厚生労働省

科学的合理主義を超えたものに対して関心　　２４

五木　そういう時代の中で、知の限界というものに、ふつうの人たちが本能的

に気つ゛きはじめてきた、そしていままでの祖霊信仰とか、葬式や、先祖を追

善する法事など、お寺とは異なる形で、仏教との付き合いを模索しはじめてい

っる。何かこう、親鸞の言葉でいえば「難思議」といいますか、ふつうの常識的

な人びとが、科学理論を超えたものに対しての関心が高まってきたのではない

でしょうか。

梅原　戦後日本人は、科学の発展によって、人類は無限に幸福になれると信じ

ていた。しかし、それが信じられなくなった。

五木　その中で、いったい仏とは何かということが、いわゆる哲学的な命題と

して浮かび上がってきたのかもしれませんね。庶民感覚のなかでも、日常的な道

徳観を超えたものに対する、無意識の願望がいま動きはじめているなと、そう

感じているんです。

ところが、仏というものはいったい何なんだという、その根源のところを、

いまの教団や既存の宗教団体がまったく答えようとしていないでしょう。仏教

も、仏さまも、最初からあるものとして前提条件にしている。そして、根源的

に考えてみるということが、まったく欠如してきたところから、現代人の苦を

解決できないという。既存仏教のいまの問題が出てきているような気がするん

ですね。

これまで梅原さんは、仏教についていろいろ書かれていますが、たしか学者

としてのスタートは、西洋哲学でしたね。

梅原　ええ。大学では西洋哲学を学んだんですが、いま五木さんがおっしゃっ

たように、デカルト哲学から始まる近代哲学はどこか間違っている、これで

はあかんと。それを乗り越える思想が、仏教にあるんじゃないかと思って、だ

いたい四十歳のころに、西洋哲学の研究から、日本の思想の研究に転向したん

です。
