数学者、①合理主義哲学の祖であり、②近世哲学の祖として知られる。

③考える主体としての自己（精神）とその④存在を定式化した⑤「我思う、ゆえに我あり」は哲学史上でもっとも有名な命題の１つである。
そしてこの命題は、当時の保守的思想であったスコラ哲学の教えであるところの「信仰」による真理の獲得ではなく、
⑥信仰のうちに限定してであれ、人間の持つ「自然の光（理性）」を用いて真理を探究していこうする近代てつがくの出発点を簡潔に表現している。
デカルトが「近代哲学の父」と称される所以である。
初めて哲学書として出版した著作⑦『方法序説』（1637年）において、冒頭が⑧「良識（bon sens）はこの世で最も公平に配分されているものである」
という文で始まるため、思想の領域における人権宣言にも比される。
また、当時学術的論文はラテン語で書かれるのが通例であった中で、デカルトは『方法序説』を母語であるフランス語で書いた。
その後のフランス文学が「明晰かつ判明」を指標とするようになったのは、デカルトの影響が大きい、ともいわれる。

合理主義哲学
Rationalistic philosophy
哲学を、捏造哲学者の推測で論じた、合理主義哲学と経験論の派閥的批判し合いであり、ますます哲学を、複雑で、難解にしてしまっている。
ソクラテス哲学の主体「魂」と「遭遇経験」の無い「捏造哲学者」が、頭で論じると、こんなにもややこそくしてしまう。
イマヌエル・カントが容認した「経験論」（人間は経験を通じて様々な観念・概念を獲得すると考える）も、
カントは、自身の独断のまどろみを破ったが（哲学を独断論の浅瀬に乗り上げることから救ったが、懐疑論といういう別の浅瀬に座礁させた）とヒュームを批判
ソクラテスや、ルネ・デカルトのように、「魂」と「遭遇経験」が、なければ、「魂」からの言葉の知恵が主体の哲学は、永遠に解けない。
Like Socrates and Rene Descartes, the wisdom of the language from a
"soul" cannot dispel the philosophy of a subject forever without a
"soul" and "encounter experience."
合理主義哲学では、人間は生得的に理性を与えられ、基本的な観念・概念の一部をもつ、もしくはそれを獲得する能力をもつと考える。
また理性の能力を用いた内省・反省を通じて原理を捉え、そこからあらゆる法則を演算しようとする演算法が真理の探究の方法とされる。
頭で論じた「論理哲学体系」は、読めば読むほど、難しく、真理の哲学を、理解・解釈するためには、読まないほうが、ましであると私は、思う。
The more it reads the "logic body of philosophy" discussed with the

考える主体としての自己（精神）とその存在を定式化した「我思う、ゆえに我あり」は哲学史上でもっとも有名な命題の一つである。
It is one of the most famous propositions on a history of philosophy "they
