「哲学（Philosophy）」という、ギリシアに由来する�@この語のそもそもの意味は、よく知られているように、「愛智」つまり�@「智

を愛すること」である。それは、何か別のことのために、つまり、�@何かの役に立つから「智を愛する」のではない。そうではなくそ

れは、�@純粋に「智を愛する」、�Aただ徹底的に考え抜きたいが故に、ただ徹底的に知りたいが故に、ただそのことの故ににのみ、

�@ 「智を愛する」ことである。

もっとも こう言えば、単に「哲学」のみならず、時にその対極と捉えられる「科学」もまたそうではないか、と言われよう。「科

学」――とりわけ基礎科学――もまた、同様の「愛智」の営みではないか、と。たしかに、そうでもあろう。実際、哲学は時

に「科学の先駆け」とも見なされる。けれども両者の間には、やはりある本質的な相違が存している。というのも、科学にお

いて問題は、徹底して一般性・客観性だからである。ここにおいては、個別性もしくは主観性は徹底して排除される。科

学的知識に「私」を持ち込むことは、厳禁である。だからこそそれは、万人が共有できる道具としての「知識」でありうる。し

かし、かのソクラテスは、こうした「知識」には全く無関心であった。「私」自身の投影しない知――単なる一般的客観的な

知――は、根本的には知（智）の名に値しない。本当の意味での智とは、自ら（「私」自身）の智であり、「私」がその智を自

ら 生きるのでなければならない。「愛智」の「智」とは、、そうした智であり、「愛智」つまり哲学の営みとは、そうした智を徹底し

て考え抜き、徹底的に知ろうとするーー言うならば、徹底して智を生きようとするーー営みである。

だからこそまた、カントはこう言った。「哲学は学ぶことができない。学びうるのはただ哲学することだけである」、と「私」自

身の智は、「私」自身において考え抜かなければならない。人から教えてもらうことはできない。ただ、どう考え抜いたらい

いのか（哲学の仕方）を、私たちは偉大な哲学者達（古典）との対話を通じて学びうるのである。

「哲学」の営為は、とりわけ西洋において二千数百年にわたって連綿と続けられてきた。この先哲の営みが、我々の哲

学的営為を支えてくれる。それは、私たちの営為の空転を阻み、私たちが荒唐無稽な一人よがりに陥ることを回避させて

くれる。

むろん、こうして哲学を「生きる」ことは、いろいろな意味でなかなか難しい。しかしこうした哲学の意味を知ることは、ど

のような進路に進むにしても、この上なく大事なことである。テクストをとおしてまさに先哲との対話を行う演習や、自らが徹

底的に遂行した思索の証としての卒業論文の作成は、間違いなく人生の大きな糧となろう。

哲学研究室は、こうした哲学研究・教育の場である。哲学研究室はまた同時に、今日的な問題へも真摯に取り組もう

としている。生命倫理、環境倫理、情報倫理などをめぐって、科学が根本的・根源的な問いへの眼差しを向けるとき、その

眼差しの先にあるものは、やはり哲学である。いま、哲学に対する期待・関心は大いに高まっている。こうした期待・関心に

応えるべく、大学院生を中心に「応用倫理勉強会」が組織され、人文社会研究科における他分野交流演習の応用倫

理に関するプロジェクト、また「２１世紀COEプログラム」の「生命の分化・価値をめぐる『死生学』の構築」等に積極的に

参与している。こうして時代に応じ、時代に真摯に向き合うこともまた、哲学研究の本文である。

＊ 　なぜ（方法序説）人類は、２５００年間も、「ソクラテスの哲学」を、頭の知識で、論じて「捏造詐欺研究」してしまったのか？

Plato was the language "arguing method" from Socrates, he received without whether accepting "existence" of "God" at this world, answered it as "YES", and believed "existence" of a "soul."

＊ 　プラトンは、４０歳代に、輪廻転生する「霊魂」（魂）の概念を重視して、ソクラテスが「遭遇経験」をした「魂」の研究に、着手する。
Plato thinks as important the concept of the "soul" (soul) which carries out Samsara transmigration to his 40's, and starts research of the "soul" for which Socrates had "an encounter experience."

＊ 　プラトンが「魂」の研究を、重視した現れは、アカデメイアの学園で、学んだ、アリストテレスの「原因と結果」の「形而上学」でも「証明」されている。
The expression than to which Plato attached greater importance to "spiritual" research is a school of アカデメイア, and "is proved" also in the studied "metaphysics" of "the cause and effect" of Aristotle.
