Makoto Tanabe (pianist)
 

 Originally born in Nagasaki prefecture. Makoto’s life was about music. He graduated Midorigaoka High school in 1984 majoring in piano. In his senior year he won first place at the 33rd Oita prefecture High school music contest piano section. From there he went on to Musashino College of music and graduated from the piano department in 1988. He studied with several leading musicians including Mikihiko Ueki, Shinko Murakami, Takashi Kawasaki and Steffen Gunther. Appearing in concerts throughout western Japan.
 In 1991 He appeared together with the Soprano singer Ms. Minako Shioda. He then went on to appear together with Ms. Titsiarna Ducarti from Italy in 1993. Together they held several concerts including a grand concert at the Hibiki hall of KitaKyusyu city.
 From there he expanded his career to include appearances with other skilled musicians from various fields. Performing with World-renowned violinist Ms. Masuko Ushioda at the NHK weekend concert benefit to welcome the new piano to Sasebo citizen’s hall in 1996 and 1997,which is recorded by NHK,FM.
 He also pursued a short series of Solo appearances in 1992 performing for the Mozart’s 23rd piano concerto with many additional appearances with the Sasebo citizen’s orchestra. He also did several appearances including chamber music with the Kyushu symphony Orchestra’member ,the Touch concert of musicians in Nagasaki prefecture etc...
Going on to plan and play the recital for the “Concert series for welfare” at the Sasebo citizen’s hall in 1997. He repeated that performance again for Isahaya Lyceum and the Acros Fukuoka symphony hall.
 In 1999, March he performed the 2nd Rachmainioff piano concerto with the Sasebo citizen’s orchestra in Matsu-ra city and Sasebo city. In September of that same year he performed recitals in the town of Uku which is his home town. Then in November he collaborated with Ms. Mieko Sato who won the Tchaikovsky international contest to perform a rendition in Saga prefecture and The collaboration was done again at the Sasebo citizen’s hall of the concert, which received critical acclaim.
 In June of 2000 he performed a recital at the Lyceum in Saza town.
From there he went on to do several performances in various locations
Finally receiving full recognition he now judges various auditions for musical competitions and appears on NBC and NHK networks. He is currently living in Sasebo city.


 

 

“My whole life ” A written essay about the autobiography of Makoto Tanabe. It has been introduced by several publishing companies and broadcast as a feature program by NBC television Nagasaki. Portions of this book are available in Braille and have accompanying voice cassettes. These are available in various libraries
Including the National library and Nagasaki prefecture Braille library. This book will give all those who are fighting disease the strength to fight with heartfelt bravery.

Mr. Tanabe has fought a long and difficult battle against Spinal scoliosis and wishes to share his conviction for life with others. Persecuted for his illness he was taken to an institution for this disease where he heard his first impressive piano. From the moment he heard that piano he knew what he was born for. His study of piano is what has continued to give him the strength to go on over the years. The book is frank in its writing style and Mr. Tanabe is very canted about how he has dealt with difficulty throughout his life.
