Principle of drive is “Linear Synchronous Motor” which is applied for the Yamanashi Linear. The Vehicle runs on the electro magnet coils arranged on the breadboard. Thrust is generated by the force between the permanent magnet on the vehicle and electromagnet on the breadboard.
An “inductor” is applied for the ground electro magnet, which is cheap and easy-to-buy. For the permanent magnet on the vehicle, a strong neodymium magnet which became familiar and easy-to-get these days.
Current flow in the ground is controlled by the inverter made by popular transistors operated by PIC micro computer chip. Applied N-gauge freight car for axle traveling mechanism which runs very smooth on the rail. Almost no sound is generated when the vehicle runs because there is neither a rotating motor nor a gear.
The Inductor from Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd., is chosen for the grounding electro magnet, which is developed and widely sold for the purpose of DC-DC converter, sold at low price less than half dollar. When you want to enjoy the experiment of the Linear Motor, the first and the toughest hurdle need to be overcome is “winding coils.”
You need to wind at least several tens of coil by yourself not knowing whether it is correctly designed or not. (Just wondering number of winding, size of coil adequate, sufficient thrust will be generated?) If it is easy-to-buy, it is easy to overcome!!
Enjoy the Linear Motor Car, designed compact, just on the leaf of breadboard. The author is putting it on the PC desk in front of the LCD display, as the vehicle runs silently, the author sometimes forgets the existence of it.
