Audrey E.Evans,M.D. フィラデルフィア小児病院・ペンシルバニア大学教授
Dr Tsuchida was a leading light in the treatment of pediatric cancer.
Trained as a surgeon he knew that families of children with cancer needed more than surgical treatment and that support had to be provided for the whole family.
He was the mentor of many of the current leaders in the field of Japanese Pediatric Oncology and represented Japan as the member of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology.
Although retired from active surgical practice he continued his dedication
to the field and I was looking forward to meeting him again at the meeting
of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Oncology in November. His death in
June is a loss to the children of Japan.

エヴァンズ先生は病気と闘う子どもたちの家族が病院の劣悪な付き添い状況の中で、精神的ストレスや経済的負担に苦しんでいる姿に胸を痛め、そうした事態の改善を目指してテンポラリーレジデンス：宿泊施設を建てられました。
善意の支援が多数寄せられ、中にはドナルド・マクドナルド社の協力もあり、子ども達の大好きなキャラクターである事もあって、施設は“ドナルド・マクドナルド・ハウス”と名付けられました。
1974年10月、フィラデルフィア郊外に7部屋で始まったハウスは、30年を経た今日では、28カ国に254の“ドナルド･マクドナルド･ハウス”10カ国に70余室の“ドナルド･マクドナルド･ファミリールーム”更に“ドナルド・マクドナルド･ケアモービル”も加わり、支援の輪は世界中に広がっています。
日本では、エヴァンス先生の意を汲んだ患者家族の為の滞在施設が1992年にスタートし、“NPOファミリーハウス”をはじめ、この1３年間で90余りの宿泊施設が全国に建てられ、多くのボランティアの支援で運営されています。
2000年、群馬県にも国の補助を受けて、群馬県立小児医療センター内 に故土田院長のご尽力のもとファミリーハウスが建てられました。
