Topics

It is very important to study the space environment induced surrounding large space structures for human's space activities. Spacecraft generates unique space environment by interacting with the surrounding medium and electromagnetic field. The author named this space environment as Spacecraft-Induced Environment (SIE) and conducted research associated with this subject. Since space plasma plays an important role in the space environment, this page describes laboratory experiments related to space plasma phenomena, electron beam injection experiments by sounding rockets, electrodynamic tethered rocket experiments, particle beam injection experiments on the Space Shuttle (SEPAC), and measurement of spacecraft-induced environment on the Space Flyer Unit (Japanese space platform). Most of them are part of research in the field of active space experiments that have been conducted worldwide since the beginning of space development. The history of this research field in Japan has already spanned more than 50 years, and research subjects have changed significantly over time. The results obtained in the active space experiments can be applied to space engineering and also to control the space environment.
