菅原道真の死後、京には異変が相次ぐ、まず道真の政敵菅原時平が延喜９年（９０９年）に３９歳の若さで病死すると、醍醐天皇（だいごてんのう）の皇子で東宮保明親王（やすあきしんのう）

（時平の甥・延喜２３年（９２３年）薨去（こうきょ）、次いでその息子で皇太孫となった慶頼王（よしよりおう）（時平の外孫・延長３年（９２５年）卒去）が次々に病死。
